Fourteen kilometres of white coral sand, a reef that begins twenty metres from the shore, and a Swahili fishing village at the northern end. Kenya's most complete coast experience.
Diani sits on Kenya's south coast, four kilometres from Ukunda airstrip. The beach is fourteen kilometres long and largely undeveloped at its southern end. The reef is close in — low tide exposes coral pools within swimming distance of the shore, and the reef wall begins thirty metres beyond that.
The Swahili culture here predates Kenyan independence by several centuries. Dhow fishing, Arabic architecture, and a cuisine that blends African, Indian, and Arab influences — none of it performed for tourists. The old town at Shimoni at the peninsula's southern tip is where the dhow traders came and went for four hundred years.
